The objective of this analysis was to determine a configuration for a bridge pavement seal that would provide a sealing force within a specification tolerance and a specification deflection. This model is all rubber using a two coefficient Mooney-Rivlin material model. The analysis is plane strain with a thickness equal to 5. The boundary conditions were applied using a rigid body contact surface on the bottom which was moved into contact with the model on Increment 0 and held in place. A second rigid body was moved into contact with the model on top and then displaced downward to apply the sealing force/deflection.

The analysis model is shown below.

Note that the model has a plane of symmetry and could be modeled as such, thereby reducing the model in half. What is interesting about this analysis is that the deformed plot near the end of the analysis (see animation file) is not symmetric. Since this deflection is beyond the region of application, no investigation was made as to why this occurred.
