This axi-symmetric model consists of a Plug Bottom which is bolted to the Plug Top, thereby compressing the two o-rings and the diaphragm with the two rigid contact surfaces. The outer diameter of the diaphragm fits into the groove in the Cage Body and is sealed with the Bonnet which is attached to the Cage Body on installation. Both the Bonnet and the Cage Body are rigid contact surfaces. The Cage Inner Diameter is also a fixed rigid contact body.

The analysis model is shown below.

The Plug Bottom is moved toward the Plug Top to simulate the bolt attachment. Then the Plug Top and Bottom moves to the left to seat the diaphragm against the Cage Inner Diameter to simulate the insertion of the components into the valve. The Bonnet is seated on the Cage Body which compresses the diaphragm into the groove in the Cage Body. The Plug Top and Bottom Assembly are moved to the right which causes the diaphragm to lift off of the Cage Inner Diameter. The diaphragm is pushed against the Cage Inner Diameter due to the application of pressure. See animation file below.

This type of modeling can be used to study the effects of the manufacturing/assembly process on the component of interest. The effect the operation loading conditions can then be evaluated while being super-positioned on the effects of the manufacturing/assembly process.

The following video shows results from the analysis.
